Wii Smarty Pants Review

The Nintendo Wii has had great success with people who don’t normally play video games.

Makers of  Wii games have since cashed-in on this phenomenon, by making a vast amount of mini-game collections.

Our Review Of Wii Smarty Pants

Smarty Pants is a beginner-friendly trivia game, with over 20,000 questions geared toward the whole family. It’s as simple as most other trivia games – with a price of about double – and its just as fun as the others to break out with a group of friends.

wii smarty pants reviewYou can play Smarty Pants one of three ways: alone, against up to three friends, or teamed with your friends in a race against the clock in ‘family mode’.

As trivia is mostly a competitive pastime, you’ll likely spend most of your time in ‘friends mode’.

Select your Mii (Character), then input your age to make sure you will receive age-appropriate questions.

The game has fairly kid-specific questions included, so even the younger members of the group will have fun and feel competitive. Next, choose the game-length and the scoring type.

“Countdown” decreases the amount of points as the clock ticks away, and “wager” allows you to determine a question’s value by playing a mini-game before each round.

Once everything is set up and ready to go, its time to spin the wheel (it is very reminiscent of the wheel from Wheel Of Fortune), which is done with just a flick of the wrist and the Wii Remote.

Understanding The Wii Smarty Pants Wheel

The wheel is divided into categories such as entertainment, sports, video games, arts, books, and fashion. You can quickly nudge the wheel left or right with the Wii Remote if the space you landed on does not appeal to you.

A question will be asked in whichever category the wheel stops on. Sometimes you can receive a card that can be played during the game by pressing B and making a throwing gesture.

They can help you change categories, pause the timer, or even narrow down the possible answers.

The questions are answered by pressing “A” and raising the Wii Remote. The questions are like most other trivia questions, however they are quite specific. Although the questions are multiple choice, you need to know your stuff! Whomever buzzes in first gets to pick an answer, but if they’re wrong, someone else can buzz in to answer.

The game may feel geared toward the males with the video game and sports categories, however there is also a fashion category for the girls, presumably, although the questions seem to be quite easier than the sport questions in.

Wii Smarty Pants Game Presentation

The game presentation is fairly dull, so its up to you to make your own excitement during the game. It is possible, however, to get into some pretty intense competitions, trying to prove you are, in fact, a smarty pants.

There’s no real visual stimulation – nothing happening on screen but a wheel spinning around and trivia questions being shown. With the price tag and lack of pizazz aside, Smarty Pants is the only game of its kind thus far and is definitely worth checking out if you happen to be a trivia buff.
